For a town of just a couple of hundred residents, Glenthompsonis a great place to visit.
Its foundations are as solid as the Glenthompson bricks that have built much of the town. The deep duplex clay has fed the local brickworks in Glenthompson for well over a century. The works is one of the very few in Australia that still produces solid clay bricks and the view into the enormous pit at Glenthompson is quite a sight in itself.
The rich history of the Glen brickworks can be enjoyed by appointment and one that will give you an appreciation for the humble brick and the craft behind its production.
Arguably the best view of the entire southern range of the Grampians can be seen from Menzies Lane, south of Glenthompson along the Caramut Road, do not forget to bring a camera.
This is my Fifth cache to date, and a short walk from town will take you to the Glenthompson Railway Station
which now, is the History Centre. Here you will find a plaque relating to the railways and you will probably not see any trains as very occasionally, one may go by.
The cache will be an easy find, and the usual swaps, and a scratchie for the first to find.
Enjoy and happy caching
