Since we are expecting a large number of cachers over the GeoWoodstock weekend I am adding my cell phone number: 604-341-7105 (texting works best) in case anyone has any problems or needs help.
A NIGHT TACK CACHE
PARKING
The above co-ordinates will take you to the trailhead for the cache. Parking is available on the side of the road. If you are heading West on Kittson Parkway/64 Avenue we highly recommend turning left onto Lyon Road and using the Sunshine Park Estates driveway to turn around.
THE PARK
The Delta Watershed Park is a very popular park noted for its incredible trail systems. It is especially popular with mountain bikers who have constructed some interesting trail obstacles. It is also a great place to take the dog for a walk.
Watch out for mountain bikers. Yes, at night too. They don’t ride any slower just because it’s dark. They just use brighter headlights.
THE TREK
For those new to Night Tack Caches, the trail is a series of retro-reflective markers that reflect light straight back to the light source (your flashlight) in a very narrow beam. It is very important to hold your flashlight right up close to your eye. Remember to carry spare batteries and trust the tacks.
This trek is approx. 3 km long and will take approx. 1 hour to complete, plus time spent at the cache and stopping to take in the sights etc. There is an obvious trail head at the co-ordinates that splits right away. You will find your first Tack within a meter or two of going down the correct trail. This trek will take you past some of the better known and less known, but equally interesting features of the park, some areas are rather spooky at night!
Along your travels their are 3 distinct different natural springs, you will need to use your ears & eyes to find them. There is also a water tap at one point where you can fill your water bottles with natural spring water.
IMPORTANT NOTE
There are a LOT of reflectors set out for the bikers. Please ignore them. They are within a few feet of the ground and are easily distinguishable from ours, which are all triangular pyramid shaped. Also, send us the coordinates of any problem areas so we can fix them up. We will be inspecting the trail on a regular basis until the growing season ends.
IMPORTANT NAVIGATION RULES ON THE TRAIL
- When you come to any trail crossing or intersection, there will be a tack visible to indicate which path to take. Because of the locations of suitable trees, there may be occasions where you may have to take a few steps down a trail to determine if it is the right one. Do not go past any intersection or side path without verifying your direction with a visible tack. You may just have to go down that path. Small game trails do not count. Those are the ones that are not worn down to earth.
- A tack will not necessarily be visible to you at all times. You may travel up to 50 or 60 meters without seeing a tack but this will only be the case when there are no side trails and the path you are on is very obvious.
- When you come to a spot where there are three tacks placed in the shape of a triangle, go to the opposite side of the trail and your treasure awaits you about 10 meters in. There is now a geo trail leading to the cache that you will have to find. Please try not to step on the greenery when making your way in.
- After you have found the cache, re-hide it and return to the trail where the tree with the three tacks in a triangle are. Carry on along the trail in the same direction that you were going before.
I hope you have as much fun on your trek as we did creating it.
Congratulations "bobs my uncle" on your 2000th find and Thank You for making my cache part of your milestone!
