The cache was set to celebrate our 500th find (D is the Roman numeral for 500) All the swap items are either dice-shaped or begin with the letter D. Please keep to this convention when swapping items. The above co-ordinates are not for the cache itself but are for Cheyne Weares Car Park where some information must be found to give you the co-ordinates for the cache. Due to the terrain this is not wheelchair or pushchair friendly and should NOT be attempted in the dark.
NB. The Car Park at Cheyne Weares has a narrow entrance (6 ft) with boulders either side. If your vehicle is too large you can park at the Church Ope Car Park (N50 32.394 W002 25.879) and walk along the road, (there is a pavement and a wide verge), to collect the information you require. The cache can be accessed from the coast path at N50 32.110 W002 25.947 It is approximately ½ mile from here. It can be made into a nice circular walk by continuing on to Church Ope Cove although it is a steep climb from there back up to the road. To find the cache co-ordinates you need to look at the notice board for the following information: How many reptiles are on the board? = A The number of butterflies + the number of swifts (ignore the miniscule one in the right topmost corner) = B How many flowers on the Bee Orchid? = C The stone information board has disappeared (24/7/17) so I have compiled the following clues for the West co-ordinates: In the text on the flora and fauna board you are looking for the number of letters in each of the answers: They glide only feet from the cliff = D It stands upright in the short grass = E 2 sea birds beginning with 'g' subtract one from the other = F The cache is hidden at: N50 32. ABC W002 25.DEF N.B. Please take the coast path to the cache. DO NOT attempt to follow the unofficial path that leaves the car park between the notice board and the stone seat. Please look carefully for the information. Some people seem to end up about 60 ft. out and are too close to the cliff edge. The cache is NOT on the cliff edge. This has been placed with permission from the Portland Ranger. Enjoy the views and maybe have a picnic on one of the benches there. When re-hiding please be careful not to drop stones on it which breaks the container.
