Geocache Description:

This is the 3rd cache of a series called "Cache to Eagle" which highlights Eagle Service Projects by the Boy Scouts of the Scenic Trails Council. Caches 1 through 5 are located in the 5 counties which make up the River Trails District.

Scouts, please remember to follow the Leave No Trace guidelines when looking for geocaches.

This Eagle Project was completed by Scott Anderson of Troop 267 in Honor, MI on February 24, 2010. Scott did his Eagle Project for the Champion Hill Cemetery in Honor, Michigan. He cleaned the headstones so they were readable, painted the storage building, did edging along the curbs, power washed the building and put up a light to shine on the American Flag.

This cache is a camo covered container (please respect the surroundings) which contains some patches and 1 of 5 “Founders of Scouting” cards. The Founder of Scouting in this cache is William D. Boyce. Scouts from the Scenic Trails Council can turn in 1 of the 5 possible cards to their troop to get the Geocaching patch puzzle piece of the Scenic Trails 100th Anniversary Patch. The first 6 scouts from each district to turn in all 5 Founders cards to the council office with the answers to the questions on each card will get a special patch.

For 100 years, the Boy Scouts of America has helped youth become more than they ever thought possible. And we’ll continue that journey into the next century. The Boy Scout program in the US began in 1910 and currently is open to boys ages 11-18. Boys learn and grow through the experiences of camping, hiking, building projects, and community service. Scouting fosters self-esteem, a sense of value and belonging, a sense of accountability, and teamwork. It’s also a lot of fun! The skills learned in Scouting help young men overcome obstacles and challenges with courage and character throughout their lives. Geocaching offers a new opportunity for the Boy Scouts to experience the outdoors while honing their Scouting skills. This cache is placed in honor Eagle Scouts and to highlight their Eagle projects and community service.
