Geocache Description:

Information obtained from: Kettle Valley Railway Mileboards, A Historical Field Guide to the KVR by Joe Smuin, Published by North Kildonan Publications 2003. If you are interested in the KVR we HIGHLY recommend picking up a copy as it contains a wealth of knowledge about every stop along the KVR!
Its original name means “Admiral Jellicoe, Royal Navy, who filed the German navy’s attempt in 1916 to inflict a decisive defeat upon the Royal Navy at the Battle of Jutland”, it is the station between Osprey Lake & Erris on your way from Princeton to Osprey Lake.
It was officially a station along the KVR between June 3, 1917 & July 21. It contained a Tool Shed, Bunk house, Shelter & Section house. The station was located at KM 73.5
Page (2-23) gives reference to an interesting storey on how easily life could have been much different –
The KVR surveyed a completely new route along Siwash Creek, then past Mizzezula (Missezula) Lake and over Roberts Pass, close to Aspen Grove onwards to the valleys of Otter Creek and the West Fork of Otter Creek, to reach Brookmere. This alignment was intended to capitalize upon anticipated development of Copper ore reserves near Aspen Grove. However by the time construction crews were put on the ground in 1914, there was already a question as to whether development of the Aspen Grove ore bodies would amount o much. Furthermore, the route of the line between Osprey Lake and Brookmere had become a “political football”. Wealthy English investors had been duped into purchasing low value land along the proposed right of way, and their local agents fought to ensure the line would go where originally proposed. Meanwhile, Princeton business interests were simultaneously fighting a campaign to bring the rails from Osprey Lake into Princeton. Ultimately the Englishmen lost and Princeton won.
