Geocache Description:

The GeoDog Project #1--Pirate's Rainbow Bridge

This cache is a bait container that has been modified to contain a logbook, pencil, and just a couple of small swag items. It is located in the Summerwood Subdivision. There is parking at a strip mall just a couple hundred feet up the street. I wouldn't do this one at night. Please be sure to use stealth and don't drop the log out of the cache.

This cache was placed in memory of our 11 year-old Border Collie named Pirate who left us on March 4, 2009 after his kidney's failed him. He was a great friend and companion who loved to chase the ball, Frisbee, or anything else you would throw for him to retrieve. He brought happiness to us and lots of other people throughout his short life. He was truly a friend to us who cared about his human companions and making sure we were happy and protected from people that he thought might cause us harm.

We didn’t discover geocaching until several months after he went to doggie heaven and we know he would have loved this hobby. We’re sure he’s up there with the angels sending us those geocaching hints you can only get through seeming divine intervention from time to time though.

One of the things we've noticed since taking up geocaching is the number of folks who like to take their geodogs out on the search for tupperwear in the woods.

A keyword search for "geodog" indicates there is worldwide support for the concept of taking the geodogs on the caching trail. Unfortunately, a number of great caching venues (parks, nature centers, etc.) ban four legged cachers. This we hate.

The objective of this project is to inspire geocachers to place GeoDog Project caches (GDP) in honor of their canine caching partners both past and present. We're hoping that folks use this project to give us good hints about where we can cache with our GeoDogs both on and off leash in parks, fields, and dog friendly places.

We always enjoy pursuing caches that have been placed in honor of GeoDogs as they usually signify that our furry four legged friends can accompany us in search of those same caches. The creativity associated with and fun of finding caches with those we love (especially our four legged friends) is what geocaching is all about. I'm sure Pirate would have agreed.

RIP Pirate (May 5, 1997 - March 4, 2009).

Way to go on the FTF which goes to Drgnhntrs.
