Reservoir Hill Revisited Traditional Cache

Elliotts4: Searched a while today but could not find the container, even with emailed help from the last finder who discovered it away from where it was supposed to be. Trashed out a bag full of liquor bottles. We will look to place a cache in a new location in this park. Scouted out some possible locations and will come back to view them in the winter before deciding on a placement.

Geocache Description:


Our original Reservoir Hill Park cache was plagued by climbing poison ivy and finished off by the demise of the tree where it was hidden. Beware of poison ivy and doggie droppings as you approach the hiding spot for this new cache! Also, PLEASE take note of the barbed wire on top of the fence near the cache - it's high enough that kids will be fine but adults may be tall enough to run into it!!

With the exception of a few trees, from this park you have a nice 360 degree view of Staunton from one of the highest points in the city. Take some time after your find to look around.

I wish I knew more about this area. I did some research at the Staunton and Augusta County libraries but found nothing that explained the brick structure in the park. Maps from the early 1900s depict a huge circular reservoir here.

Parking is available in a little gravel lot across from the intersection of N. Madison and N. Jefferson. PLEASE park in the lot NOT in the grass - thank you! You cannot access the cache via Thornrose Cemetery. Do not attempt this cache if there is activity on the baseball or soccer field!

This cache is registered with the Staunton Department of Recreation and Parks. It is a small sized lock-and-lock container with a few swag items and able to hold small travel bugs. Enjoy!
