Geocache Description:

Located off the Mesabi Trail- Trezona Loop which runs through the city of Ely, MN. BYOP. I WILL DELETE ANY SPOILERS (LOGS/PICTURES) THAT INDICATE WHERE THE CACHE IS LOCATED or of the CONTAINER. DO NOT LEAVE FOOD OR LIGHTERS IN THE CONTAINER.

There were five mines that collapsed to form Miners Lake. When the mining stopped and the pumps, which kept the water out of the mines, were shut off and the tunnels were allowed to fill with water.

The mines were the Chandler (north and south), the Pioneer (A and B), the Zenith (A and B), the Sibley, and the Savoy.

The first ore from the SIBLEY MINE was shipped in 1899, and by the time the mine closed in 1954, 10 million tons of iron ore was shipped from this mine.

You can see to the right and left of the cache old concrete from the mine. Just to the west of the cache is the Miners Lake campground and the large brick building which is now part of the campground was one of the Sibley Mine buildings.
