On the day this cache was placed we could see thousands of tiny
fish 1-3 inches long swimming in schools from the elevated
boardwalk which makes up some of the bridge. As this is near the
salmon viewing site in the Summer adult salmon might be viewable
here as well.
The Trail of Blue Ice runs 4.7 miles from the shore of Portage Lake
and the Begich, Boggs Visitor Center down the Portage Valley to the
Moose Flats Day Use Area. There are multiple access points in
between these points so one can pick the length of their trip. It
crosses seven bridges along the way and cost $4,000,000 to build.
It is classified as a Class V trail by the Forest Service which
means it is in the deluxe trail category. For more information on
the trail please visit link Or contact: Begich, Boggs visitor Center
