Geocache Description:

This cache is a 35mm film pot located at ground level. Sorry, this cache is not accessible to wheelchair cachers.

This cache highlights a WW2 artefact that is probably one of the largest in East Sussex but, strangely, very few people have seen.

Have you ever wondered why grass and plants don't grow in some areas whereas they flourish only a few feet away?
It could be because of what lies beneath the surface.

This cache marks the southern edge of one of the WW2 practice runways (air landing strips) that were built near Hailsham by an Airfield Construction Group in anticipation of the requirement for quick runway construction by the allies in France soon after D-Day (6th June 1944).

The picture shows the locations of two of the four practice runways / air landing strips that can still be seen.
(Don't be confused by the deliberate clearing of vegetation below the power lines that run through this area.)

I have used a piece of old black bitumen runway to cover the cache.
