This unique water reservoir, affectionately known as the "Dodo",
was built to commemorate Water Year 1970.
Dodo is short for it's geometric shape, which is a dodecahedron,
made up of twelve equal pentagons. The name also reflected
residents' opinion at the time of how taxpayers' money was being
wasted on a less than optimal structure.
Now, 40 years later, we are very proud of our "Dodo", which has
been upgraded to commemorate the Football World Cup 2010, and can
be seen from almost anywhere in Nelspruit.
The Dodo, circa 2005, before it's recent upgrade.
If the gate is open, then the cache can be accessed via the walkway
and the viewing deck. If the gate is locked, you can access the
cache by going around the outside of the fence.
At the cache location, see if you can spot the spikey seed pods of
the Lowveld Chestnut tree which is only found in this area. Feel
free to pick up a pod as a souvenir, but be aware that the fine
hairs on the spikes can cause mild skin irritation.
The cache is a camo 1 litre lock 'n lock, and is suitable for
geocoins and most TBs.
Use a stick to poke around, not your hand - there could be snakes
in the area, and please re-hide the cache well to avoid accidental
discovery. The cache location is out of sight of the viewing deck,
so you should be able to do your important business with enough
privacy.
