Llanrhidian is a quiet hamlet in North Gower with a fascinating history. Of interest are its medieval church, the two standing stones (one of which is reputed to have been used as a pillory) erected on its sloping Green, its pub,and its restaurant which is reputed to be haunted. The two plaques in the church's gatepost were found in the nearby abandoned village of Llanelen and are believed to curse anyone who touches them. There is also an old watermill located in the village.
Suggested route to the cache: Park up outside the village's two standing stones. Head on through the graveyard, taking note of the two suposedly cursed gatepost plaques. Proceed through the graveyard and out onto the footpath at the rear. Note the cave which plunges to your left a few steps later. Leave the footpath at the first sign of the road track. The cache can be found along this track which leads west from Llanrhidian. When following the track, look out for a couple of very interesting gnarled trees growing along a very steep clearing. Don't attempt to reach the uppermost tree - intriguing though it is - as the incline is just too severe to negotiate. The cache is hidden amongst the lower tree and has a few small stones infront of it to keep it hidden from idle glances. Return via the track all the way to the village, ignoring your earlier route through the graveyard, and you will pass the old Mill. Turn right when you reach the road, and walk up to to return to the two standing stones.
