Texas Spirit Quest
Series

The Texas Spirit Quest
 is a series of Caches placed by many individuals, near cemeteries and historic sites in hopes of paying respect to the many pioneer ancestors that have walked before us.

There are hundreds of cemeteries in the rural communities across Texas. This series will introduce you to many of them. The cache pages will provide a virtual history tour of the cemeteries, tombstones and local lore.



I have no history about this old cemetery but I do want to thank Paleopoppy for finding this neat lil place and leading me here. I have often wondered if there were old and forgotten plots out in the back country of Howard county and my wonderst have been answered. I have sat back and wondered who is burried and why this place was picked for their burial. There are myths about these burials and both seem pretty neat and plausable. One is that there is a woman and 3 children buried here and that this use to be a route of an old stage coach line. I think that is pretty neat to think back of the history and who may be buried here. Many people have traced there Geneology back to many cemeteries and have followed many routes there ancestors have taken and to be homesteaded where they are at. I often think that these graves may hold the answer to somebodys feverish look and endless research for there bloodlines and lost families in their family tree. I wonder if these 4 burials could be the lost branch of an unfinished family tree and what these 4 lives whould have ended up if they were to complete their journey to their planned destination.

What could it have been that killed them? Could it be a desease of them Comanche Indians that roamed these far streaches of West Texas? There are alot of questions and alot of pondering of these 4 peoples lives and what caused their demise! Maybe there will be an answer and after some research maybe I can change this writing up in the future and get the true history of these individuals. I hope to get answers to this Unknown Cemetery someday cause I am as very interested as y'all are.



This very small 4 plot cemetery sits out in the middle of Texas Oil Fields along a an un-named dirt road. The Howard County Land Records do not show this small fenced plot. The road is un-named and so are the 4 graves. The Headstones are made of Red Sandstone (easy to carve), but none of the markings are legible as the sandstorms of West Texas are unforgiving and harsh. No names and no dates are remotly legible, yet you can tell that there used to be marks which have weathered away.

A local landowner knows about the site but doesn't have a clue about who is buried there. He does tell an interesting tale that he had heard years before.

"The small 4 grave plot supposedly has the remains of a settler family....Mother and 3 Children" and another story goes that these are the final resting place for a Woman, 2 children and a dog.

New Info: I have just found out on 11/11/12 that it was some oil field workers who found the actual plot. The maintenance and service crew for this section of pump stations built the Rod and pipe fence around the plot and have it on their schedule to keep the site weeded and clear. These honorable men know the value of history and don't want this little piece of Texas history to disappear in the sands of time and sands of West Texas

SPECIAL NOTE: Since this small plot is so far off the main road here is a Google Maps Route Link that gives 3 different routes to the small plot. The Oil Field Roads can very convoluted and confusing but you can get to this plot very easily by following one of the 3 routes shown in the (above) link.
