State road 826, also known as Palmetto Expressway, is a bypass route around the Greater Miami Area, extending 24.7 miles. It extends from U.S. Route 1 in Pinecrest going through the inner suburbs of Miami to the Golden Glades.
Interchange at North Miami Beach. In 1961, at the cost of $30 million, the Palmetto Bypass Expressway was opened. Later on the “bypass” faded to just Palmetto Expressway as it is known today. With the growing population of Miami-Dade County, SR 826 is one of the major traffic arteries; filled with commuters at almost all hours of the day connecting with all other major highways like the Florida’s Turnpike, Interstate 95 and Interstate 75, to name a few.
As an active Miami-Dade geocacher, this highway allows me to reach a multitude of caches and also provides me with a chance to some FTF opportunities.
The cache is located in a safe road adjacent to one of the most scenic and dangerous curves of the Palmetto Expressway. At GZ you will be able to appreciate a great portion of the highway and its busy traffic.
