Geocache Description:

Stockdale Moor Pinfold. A mid level walk with a bit of navigation to a mountain pinfold marked on the OS map. Bring Pencil.

An urban pinfold is the enclosure where animals were held because they were grazing on land they should not have been.
Urban pinfolds are usually in or near a village. They were used to hold stray beasts until their owner paid the fine to the pinder to release the stock.

This mountain pinfold was an overnight stop for drovers moving herds of cattle south to big urban areas. There are ruins of a small hut at north east corner. Maybe drover's hut.

If approaching from west you will have to ford Worm Gill. There is no bridge.
Also note the additional waypoints for bridleway junctions, which exist on the map but are indistinct on the ground. Over Tongue How track is a sheep trod becoming a rocky cart track once past ruins.

Bring your own pencil.

Although you might struggle to leave anything. Things to remove from a cache and not to swap in the first instance. Food stuff, sweets, batteries, coins, plasters (Band-Aid) anything in a sachet, anything liquid, marker pens.

Log is now waterproof paper.
