WILD ? WELL ... no more
They aren’t wild out of this location any more, but this is the original location for Wild Well Control. WWC was the first company to give the famed Red Adair Company (think 1968 John Wayne film, Hellfighters) a run for their money. In the early years, WWC’s dozen or so employees were called to manage fires only once every couple of months. Then in 1991, Kuwait was stripped and set on fire by the retreating Iraqi troops during the final days of the Gulf War. Black smoke filled the sky and raging fires, fueled by rich oil reserves, covered the desert landscape and presented a monumental firefighting operation such as the world had never previously witnessed. WWC was one of only three companies contacted by Kuwait Oil Company to regain control of its fields of raging well fires. WWC’s control specialists were confronted with a number of new challenges, most notably safety concerns in the war-torn and explosive laden nation of Kuwait and severe environmental pollution concerns. WWC met the challenges with incredible success, capping more than 130 wells in eight months. Many experts credit the incredible speed of the American campaign (as exemplified by WWC) for the lack of serious long-term damage to the environment of the area. Here’s to where it all started and how a bunch of hard working Texan’s showed the world how it’s done, Spring Texas style!
