Where the Whitebait Run (West Coast) Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Sarah & Dad: Tis gone, flood / erosion.

Area is too overgrown now with gorse, blackberry & flood debris to make an attractive location for a replacement cache.

The shrub right on the edge was GZ MisterAnthony so 'take the find' if you are able to change the log.

Geocache Description:

One of our favourite spots located near the mouth of Mahinapua Creek.

Big Whitebait runs in spring (whitebaiting not allowed here) make for excellent fishing targeting sea-run trout, 'monster' perch and flounder.

This area is tidal and prone to occasional flooding. As a result, the cache is located above ground around waist height. You are looking for a large pill bottle wrapped in black insulation tape.

Depending on the tide, the most direct route isnt necessarily the best / easiest. You can still easily reach the cache and keep your feet dry, just need to detour (find the track to the beach).
Shoes are recommended for the last 10 or so meters before GZ if you choose to wade through the knee high water (high tide).
