Welcome to the Deschutes National Forest Paperback Library. You are looking for a larger-than-normal sized ammo can. The Library is open when the area is free of snow.
This cache is exactly what it says it is- a cache for trading paperbacks. Here are the library rules:
1. Please no geojunk. Books only. Nothing gross that you wouldn't give to your gramma or niece. If you wanna leave a coin or TB, go ahead.
2. Take a book only if you leave one as well. Each is in a separate ziploc. Don't take the bags; just put the one you're leaving in the same bag as the one you took.
3. Once you take a book, keep it. No need to return anything.
4. If you take/leave, please say in the log book and in your log below what you took and what you left. I will be using the logs to update the list of available books so people can see what's currently out there.
5. If you could care less about the books and just want your smiley, you are of course welcome.
Now, I suppose you might want some directions. The best place to park is at Aspen Camp. This area gets a bit congested during rafting season, but that'll all disappear as soon as you hit the trail. I found approaches from below and from above to be equally difficult, so pick your poison. Or try one of each so you can hike a small loop. Reception in the trees could- no, WILL- be iffy, so make the usual changes to your strategy. The north numbers ranged from .071 to .084 while I was there; the west numbers varied less. In addition to the hint below, let me throw you a bone: you're in the ballpark if you find yourself directly downhill from a large, dead deciduous tree. Expect a physically and perhaps mentally challenging search, but you should have enough here to get you zeroed in.
So put down that backpack full of books you brought, roll up your sleeves, and get searching! Those paperbacks aren't gonna read themselves!
