This is a quick find after a long hike. Located near a pond that has a busted dam, it should be an easy find.
I decided to take a hike and hide a cache on the Ouachita Trail near lake Maumelle. I had planned on a short hike but it turned out to be MUCH longer than I thought. I parked at Highway 10 just north of the bridge across the western end of the lake. From here it's about a 6 mile hike round trip. You can cut off more than half of this by using the nothernmost trailhead that crosses highway 113. Just follow the trail west and when you get close to ground zero you will find two small ponds. Both of these ponds have had the dam's busted out. But apparently beavers have rebuilt much of the dams so there is still two nice little ponds in the middle of the wilderness. It should be an easy find after a hard hike.
The trail is very nicely marked with blue blazes. The first section from Highway 10 west to highway 113 had been maintained by someone with a weedeater just the day or two before I passed through. Even the trail that was not weedeated was in great shape. Just a few storm blown trees on the trail that were easy to circumnavigate.
