Geocache Description:

Camoed pill bottle

These caches are in the City of Phoenix Sonoran Mountain Preserve. phoenix.gov/parks/hikemain will take you to their website for information on all the parks and preserve in Phoenix. The main trailhead to this trail is behind the Fireside community center but is not part of this “community”.

I decided this new trail should start off with a series of caches to bring out the hiker/mtbiker and even the horseback riders. The trailhead has ample parking for everyone including horse trailers.

All of the caches are fairly close to the trail, most you will get from the trail so they are micro’s. Please rehide as well as you found them so they remain in place for the next cacher. All have a log and pencil so the only thing you need to bring is ….. whatever you want on your hike !

There are several ways to access this trail. The main trailhead on Desert Vista from the south. From the north there is a trail off Sonoran Blvd. There is a cache GC28QQA marking this trail. From the west the trail can be accessed from a couple “HOA” built trails which wander through the neighborhoods. These are private trails until you get into the preserve area. The eastern access is going to be a long hike in from the Cave Buttes Rec. Area. Remember this is a preserve and no motor vehicles are allowed !

The “Loop” trail is about 4 miles long. Then depending on where you access the “Loop” from will determine your total time on the trail. Also on the Loop are two trails splitting off and going up to two of the peaks. One of the peaks contains cache GCDA14. Access to this cache just got a lot easier !!! Look for the Dixie benchmarks up there too. The second peak trail will have a cache from this series. The Loop trail is easy to moderate by my thoughts. It’s a great trail with lots of elevation change but nothing too steep. Now the trails up the peaks…..they are a leg burner, also by my thoughts. You could find them easier / harder depending on your level of athleticism !!!

All the trails are open to the public from 5:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. The trailhead parking lot will be open from 5:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The trailhead parking officially opens June 2010. So till then parking is where you find it.

Enjoy the hike and the caches…
