Geocache Description:

Approximately two miles one way, moderate to strenuous. Those that are motivated can continue to the "Orchard Camp Cache". The truely insane can arrange a car shuttle to make a triple header with either "Hoegee's Cache" or the "Cabin Cache".
NOTE: Rains often wash out parts of the trail. Also, on hot days you will be exposed to lots of sun.

The Ugly Brothers and their kinder have left another cache in the hills of Sierra Madre. Again, the cache is at another site of historical interest to the community of Sierra Madre. This cache has been named the “Stone Quarter Rash Cache” because the journey will take you past the site of the Quarter Way House (34° 11.195 N, 118° 02.626) to an old stone gauging station (34° 11.200 N, 118° 11.614 W) on the old OLD Mt. Wilson Trail. Just before you reach the area of the cache you will pass through seas of poison oak. At the stone tower you will be very near the cache. Your GPS may not function well due to the canopy so you may need to use a compass bearing. See encrypted hint. Those familiar with other Ugly Brothers caches will know immediately where the cache is once they’ve taken the bearing.

The starting point is Lizzie’s Trail Inn (34° 10.180 N, 118° 02.938 W). Approximately half way to Orchard Cache you will have to make a decision about how to proceed. Here is a clue: If you go for a sip first you’ll end up a scramblin’; but the path by the rope means you won’t be a bramblin’.

This cache contains:
A log book
A camera to take your self portrait (please leave it in cache)
Mardi Gras beads
a NASA/JASON pin
3 NASA stickers
Irish 10 & 20 pence coins
Ugly Brothers recipes

A TOPO MAP of the area may also be of help.

Those interested in the history of the are may want to refer to John W. Robinson’s “Sierra Madre’s Old Mt. Wilson Trail” (October, 2001 Big Santa Anita Historical Society ISBN 0-9615421-7-9)
