Geocache Description:

Every once in a while it is time to return to the basics of geocaching. The ABCs of Geocaching series will test you on your basic skills and maybe stretch you a little bit as well. Now! On to the earthcache.

Trout Pond is the only natural lake in West Virginia. The recreation area around Trout Pond has a large collection of streams, mountains, sinkholes, and recreation options. People coming for the day can enjoy hiking, fishing, swimming, boating, and many other activities. There is also a family camping area for those wishing to stay for a longer period of time. There is a day use fee for those coming to Trout Pond recreation area as well as fees for camping overnight.

In order to log this earthcache, you must answer these questions (via email of course) from the informational placards nearby and surrounding the bathhouse:

1. What are three other names for the Downy Service Berry?
2. What are the four white 'pedals' of a Dogwood flower called?
3. Why is the Eastern Red Cedar's name a little misleading?
4. What are five other names for the Chestnut Oak?
5. What are the three shapes of a Sassafras leaf?

After answering these questions, you may proceed to the posted coordinates and answer the following question about Trout Pond according to the posted placard:

6. According to the information at this location, what geological feature creates Trout Pond?
7. How many more similar features are in the area as described by the placard.

Take a picture of yourself at the pond and included it with your log as well as giving an estimated size of the pond at the time of your visit.
