Geocache Description:

Il Caffè Le Giubbe Rosse è un esercizio storico di Firenze, situato in piazza della Repubblica 13-14/r
II locale fu fondato nel 1897 dai fratelli Reininghaus, fabbricanti di birra tedeschi. Secondo la moda viennese del tempo, i camerieri indossavano giubbe rosse tanto che i fiorentini, trovando difficoltà nel pronunciare il nome straniero del caffè, preferivano dire: "andiamo da quelli delle giubbe rosse".
Dal 1913 divenne sede fìssa dei futuristi fiorentini, trasformandosi in luogo di incontro per letterati e artisti italiani e stranieri. Tutt'oggi interamente coperto da foto, disegni e memorie dei suoi celebri frequentatori, fu sede per esempio della rissa tra i futuristi milanesi di Marinetti e gli artisti fiorentini raccolti intorno alla rivista La Voce di Giuseppe Prezzolini, sulla quale Ardengo Soffici pubblicò un articolo che attaccava i rivali. At the beginning of '900, as the brothers Reininghaus' beer cellar and subsequently under its present name which originates from the colour of the waiters'jackets, the "Giubbe Rosse" hosted the eras of Futurism and successive trends.
The famous magazines "La Voce", "Lacerba", "Solaria", and other more recent pubblications, owe something to this Caffè where poets, artists and intellectuals meet and counter.
Personalities such as Marinetti, Papini, Prezzolini, Cambana, Gadda, Boccioni, Montale and many others, in various epochs and cultural milieu, made the "Giubbe Rosse" a crossroads in the literary history of '900.
Literary Encounters continue up to the present day at the "Giubbe Rosse" , which is frequented by artists and intellectuals of every school making this Literary Caffè a centre of culture and art. (visit link)
