Geocache Description:

In 1936 my grandparents met on this beach. She was staying in the house her father built in 1900. This is the cottage on your left as you walk to the beach. He was staying at his Uncle Percy's nearby. Percy's place is now the garage of a huge house isolated above the road to the north of Castle Rock.

My family still owns the cottage, and I've been coming here since before I was born. This marine reserve is a favourite spot for divers, however there are very few day trippers. This makes for a very isolated and lovely spot. The views are spectacular and if you're lucky you may see baboons, seals, otters, dolphins, and occasionally even whales. Don't feed the baboons. And be aware they may try to take any bags you are carrying and are able to open unlocked car doors.

The cache is on top of Castle Rock. If you wish to stay dry, it will be best to do this in low tide. Castle Rock consists of the same granite described in the nearby earth cache, froggy pond boulder hop (GCX1CEJY). with many visible xenoliths.

There are multiple routes to the top, but I prefer to go to the north, through a crack (otters live here) and up. There are slippery 'stairs' on the south side too. Park at the layby at: -34 14.333 18 28.544 To get to the beach, head down the public access stairs at: -34 14.360 18 28.550
