Ligging:

De Maasmeander Dubbroek is gelegen in de gemeente Peel en Maas tussen Maasbree, Baarlo en Hout Blerick. Het is een geul, die door de Maas tijdens de laatste ijstijd is verlaten. Naast de turfwinning is het Dubbroek, net als vele andere meanders, in gebruik geweest als extensief grasland en gebruikt voor de houtproductie.

Bodem:

Deze oude Maasmeander is gelegen op het laagterras langs de (steil)rand in het overgangsgebied naar het dekzandlandschap ten westen van de Maas in Noord-Limburg. Karakteristiek voor het gebied waarin de Maasmeanders liggen is het voorkomen van talloze geulen, zodat het reliëf en de bodemsamenstelling veelal gevarieerd is. In het gebied komen pyrietbanken voor.

Grote delen van de Maasmeander zijn bijzonder nat door calcium-, ijzer-en sulfaatrijke kwel, afkomstig van de hoger gelegen Maasterrassen en de geringe ontwatering. Het grondwater stroomt richting de Maas. Vanuit de Maasmeanders zijn beken naar de Maas gegraven.

Location:

The Meander River Meuse Dubbroek is located in the district of Peel and Maas between Maasbree, Baarlo and Hout-Blerick. It's a gully the River Meuse left during the last ice age. Besides the peat is Dubbroek, like many other meanders, used as extensive grassland and used for timber production.

Soil:

This old Meuse Meander is located on the lower terrace along the (straight) edge in the transition to coversandlandscape west of the River Meuse in North Limburg. Characteristic for the area is that it prevents many channels, so the topography and soil composition often vary. In the area are pyritebanks.

Large parts of the Meander River Meuse are extremely wet because of calcium, iron and sulphate rich seepage coming from the upper Meuseterraces and poor drainage. The groundwater flows toward the Meuse. From the Meuse Meanders are brooks dug to the Meuse. In the Dubbroek flows the Springbeek.
