Geocache Description:


The cache is located near one of the many scenic sections of the Illinois Prairie Path and is accessible to hikers, bikers and horseback riders. Plan on spending some time walking the trail and exploring the surrounding areas. It has woods, streams, ponds and a large area of preserved Illinois prairie. Although it is not very far from populated areas I have seen many different types of small birds, ducks, geese, blue herons, egrets, deer, beaver, and even red fox on walks I have taken here. The main entrance to Pratts Wayne Woods is nearby with picnic areas and several small lakes for fishing. It is well worth visiting. Please be sure to respect those areas that are marked as off-limits during certain times of the year as they are nesting sites for the Sandhill Crane, an endangered species.

To begin your search go to GPS coordinates N41.57.042 W088.14.465. There is a small parking area located on each side of the road. From there you should travel northwest on the trail. The cache itself is well hidden off the main trail. The smaller trails near the site can be muddy at times. Although not on the main beaten path there are occasions where hikers or equestrians can get close to the site so please be observant that you do not unintentionally give away the cache location.
