This is an European Commission (EC) agency aimed at strengthening Europe's defences against infectious diseases. So far it's the only agency in Sweden.

The agency was created in June 1st, 2005 and it's initial location was in Solna City hall in Solna Center. As the agency started growing, the need for a bigger space led the founding Director (Zsuzsanna Jakab) to move the headquarters to the beautiful building that was once a school for blind Children, Tomtebodaskolan. The agency counts with approximately 300 staff and will move to another building in 2018.
The ECDC is organized in the following units: Office of the Chief Scientist; Surveillance and Response Support; Public Health Capacity and Communication; Resource Management and Coordination; Information and Communication Technologies.

The staff comes from all European countries, and most of them move to Stockholm just for this job, like ourselves!
