Geocache Description:

THE CACHE

It's a very easy cache to let people know a little bit more about ECDC.

The container has a logbook and some small items for exchange.
It's quite obvious for a geocacher but not for a muggler (we hope).

The cache is located in an area is of public access but the building has security 24/7 so please be discrete in order to avoid getting the attention of the security!

logoEuropean Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC)

This is an European Commission (EC) agency aimed at strengthening Europe's defences against infectious diseases. So far it's the only agency in Sweden.

See here other agencies.

The agency was created in June 1st, 2005 and it's initial location was in Solna City hall in Solna Center. As the agency started growing, the need for a bigger space led the founding Director (Zsuzsanna Jakab) to move the headquarters to the beautiful building that was once a school for blind Children, Tomtebodaskolan. Read more about the school and the 19th century building history here.

building

The agency counts with approximately 300 staff and will move to another building in 2018.

The ECDC is organized in the following units: Office of the Chief Scientist; Surveillance and Response Support; Public Health Capacity and Communication; Resource Management and Coordination; Information and Communication Technologies.
- See more at: ECDC website

The staff comes from all European countries, and most of them move to Stockholm just for this job, like ourselves!

This cache is being published on the 1st of June 2010, the day of the 5th anniverary of the ECDC.
