A safe Area de Descanso is available not far from Km 17 and is very near the cache. Watch out for sharp pointy things & desert critters. Do enjoy the many saguaros now in bloom along this stretch of Highway 8.
This DESERT IN BLOOM series is dedicated to my Grandma Emma from Nebraska. For the many years that I lived in Arizona, I sent her the annual Arizona Highways Calendar with all the beautiful photos of the blooming cacti of the southwest. During our frequent phone conversations, she always asked: "Is the desert in bloom there?" So, yes Grandma, the desert is in bloom, somewhere, every month of the year. Here is May!
