BubbaM: CO's spouse has cancer and so our caching days are seriously curtailed. Will re-establish this cache in the general area when we are able to, if the location is still available.

How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

This cache is designated as a "Spirit Quest" cache, indicating that it is located in a cemetary. Please respect Michigan law, which permits cemetary access from dawn to dusk. NOTE THIS CEMETARY IS ONLY OPEN FROM 11 AM TO 4 PM ON SUNDAYS. This cache is dedicated to Dorothy Ternent Osgood (1905-1963) a family member who died from breast cancer. The headstone that she shares with her husband, Harold, is located near this cache. Say hello as you look for the cache.

My favorite kind of cache: you can get within 40 feet by car/bike/motorcycle, and parking is easy. No bushwhacking. Small cache will hold coins and bugs (with small hitchikers). Lightening strike took out our original cache location. Re-cached nearby. Crisp one dollar bill (stamped www.wheresgeorge.com) for FTF. Not so crisp one dollar bill, but equally spendable (also stamped www.wheresgeorge.com) for STF. Good luck! Congrats to VANTE - FTF, and to BLACKYAK - STF.

NOTE: There are THREE OTHER GEOCACHES in this large cemetary. All are relatively easy access (no bush-whacking) and winter-friendly.

WHAT TO DO WITH GEOCOINS, TRAVEL BUGS AND OTHER TRACKABLES

Step 1. GET THE TRACKING NUMBER. This number is normally stamped on the trackable.

Step 2. VISIT THE TRACKABLE'S WEBPAGE. Every trackable has its own web page, accessible through www.geocaching.com. To find the page, either go to the cache page for the geocache where you found the trackable (and look in inventory list) or visit the Geocoin page and use the search tool. (use the tracking number)

Step 3. DECIDE WHETHER YOU WANT TO ACTUALLY TAKE THE PHYSICAL TRACKABLE WITH YOU, OR WHETHER YOU WANT TO "DISCOVER" IT (log the item but not physically take it). YOU WILL NEED TO LOG IT INTO WWW.GEOGACHING.COM FOR EITHER OPTION.

Step 4A TO “DISCOVER” A TRACKABLE… (NO PHYSICAL POSSESSION):

If you are shown a trackable by another geocacher, or come across one in a cache, but you do not want to be responsible to move it anywhere, you may "discover" it. To do this, do NOT take the physical trackable. However, DO OBTAIN THE TRACKING NUMBER, and enter this number on-line. Instead of selecting the “grab” or “retrieve” option, select “discover” – and the website will make a “virtual log” which will automatically add the icon to your profile. You need not do anything more with either the trackable or the website.

Step 4B TO “GRAB” OR “RETRIEVE” A TRACKABLE… (PHYSICAL POSSESSION):

If you want to take the physical trackable with you, you will become responsible for moving it to another cache or trading it with another cacher. Take the physical trackable, and as soon as possible, go to the trackable’s web page, and write a log to let the trackable's owner know you found it. By logging the find you are also "grabbing" the trackable and putting it in your own account's online inventory. (This will later allow you to drop the trackable in another cache). If the trackable is listed as being in a cache, you will have two options: “retrieve” it from the cache or “grab” the trackable. Both logs require the tracking number, so keep the tracking number handy for the coin that you plan to log. Once you have “grabbed” or “retrieved” the trackable, it will remain in your online inventory until someone else grabs it from you or you place it in a cache.

DROPPING OFF A TRACKABLE…

Once you log that you have physically retrieved or grabbed a trackable, you are sponsible to make sure that it physiucally gets into another cache (or another cachcer’s hands), and you must also make sure to enter the disposition into the website.

Step 1. Visit the Cache Listing. Find the cache listing for the cache in which you placed the trackable. If you already logged your find, you can show the drop off of the trackable by “posting a note” log.

Step 2. Visit the "log your visit" page by clicking the link in the upper right-hand corner. Enter some comments about your visit and the trackable that you traded.

Step 3. Select the trackable to drop off. Scroll below the text box to see a list of the trackables in your inventory. Click the button to submit your log to the cache page. The trackable will then automatcially transfer from your inventory to the online cache listing.
