Geocache Description:

This cache is an Old Port beef pail in a plastic bag. This and several other caches in the area are accessable from the old railway track. The easiest approach is to go to the railway track at the end of Taylors Rd. South River and in a short walk you can pick up three of the seven caches in this series.

This is one of seven in a series of caches called “The Old Port Series” They are numbered one to seven. The seventh cache being a mystery cache and the coordinates listed on that cache are not accurate. The actual coordinates are found in part on each of the first six caches in the series. You will have to look within each cache where a single clues is given in several locations. Each cache contains a first to find card and also contains a Geocache Card with a code number and letter which when put in a certain combination will spell the surname of the original settlers or the property on which the mystery cache is located. You must figure out the combination, it is easy!!!! There is a first to find prize in #7 and a special prize will be awarded to anyone who is first to find all seven . Just leave you details on the back of the first to find card(s) along with the name of the original settlers and leave it/them in #7. Not to worry if you don’t find all seven as a card will be drawn from the #7 Cache once all the first to find cards have been deposited. That person will receive the special mystery prize by mail.

All the caches are Old Port 2kg beef pails containing Geocache note, Log book, pencil and sharpener, FTF card, Geocache Card, and an assortment of exchangeable items. They are all in the South River area.
Note: Cache # 7 is a well hidden cache..

Each of the 7 caches in this series has a connection to my ancestors. This is an area where my father and mother would meet when courting. Back then there was a breakwater accross the water. She was from the Motion and he was from Salmon Cove. One time there was a large sandy beach to the west of the Breakwater which was a favorite swimming hole but construction of the TCH in the 60's created a lot of activity in the pits in this area and tailings were washed onto and were pushed over the beach area. My uncle, who was a professor at MUN, claimed this activity ruined what was once a great salmon river. It is still scheduled in parts but 50 years later few salmon venture up these waters. Sea trout on the other hand love it here.

Contents: Golf tee, kinder surprise, unicorn eraser, napkin holder, key purse, deck of mini cards, Log book, pencil , sharpener, FTF card, Geocache Card. Please leave sharpener in the cache.
