Geocache Description:

La Presa Garita is the first hydroelectric plant built by ICE and brought online April 28, 1958. This national effort is admirable and should fill Costa Ricans with pride and satisfaction.

The dam is located in Alajuela province, between La Garita and Turrucares and uses the waters of the Rio Grande de San Ramón. On July 15, 1987 La Garita Hydroelectric Project upgraded the two original generators to produce 30,000 kW. These were replaced again in 2003 with more efficient generators. The plant now has the potential to produce 97,380 kW.

The cache is located on Highway 3 between La Garita and Atenas. The cache container is located outside the employee gate to the hydroelectric plant and it is designed to blend into the environment. There is a spot where you can pull off the highway and park. There will probably be muggles about looking at the dam, so use stealth.

The cache container is too small to hold anything but a log, so please BYOP. Be very careful when putting this cache back in place. Put it back like you found it so it will blend back into the surrounding environment, and position it so the log does not get wet.

Please Note: The original coordinates were updated when we had to move the cache from one side of the gate to the other due to plant maintenance. The new coordinates are N 09° 59.133 W 084° 20.471

18-Junio-2010 --- Congratulations to Detti and Flavio for being the FTF!
