Bitte beachtet die Öffnungszeiten der Klamm: Diese sind von Ende Mai bis Ende September / Anfang Oktober. Die genauen Daten findet ihr hier. Es kann trotzdem geloggt werden. Die entsprechende Tafel befindet sich am oberen Ende der Klamm außerhalb des abgeschlossenen Bereichs.
The gorge is usually open between end of May and end of September / early October. You can find the exact opening hours here. However, you can log the cache, as the relevant info table is at the upper end of the gorge, outside the closed area.

In der Späteiszeit vor etwa 14.000 Jahren war das Kaprunertal von einem mächtigen Gletscher bedeckt. Langsam talwärts fließend bearbeitete er die harten Kalkglimmerschieferfelsen des Mais- und Bürgkogels. Der abgeschmolzene Gletscher hinterließ einen Taleinschnitt, durch den die Kapruner Ache talwärts strömte.
Bis zu 32 m tief hat sich die Kapruner Ache bisher auf ihrem 320 m langen Weg durch die Sigmund-Thun-Klamm eingeschnitten und markante Glättungen, Strudeltöpfe und Kolke gebildet.
Dieser noch heute andauernde Vorgang dokumentiert den jüngsten Abschnitt der Entstehungsgeschichte des Kapruner Tales.
Wenn Kinder und Eltern die Sigmund-Thun-Klamm in Kaprun erkunden, verstehen sie die Worte von Graf Sigmund von Thun, dem historischen Stadthalter Salzburgs: "Tosend und mächtig eilen uns die Fluthen entgegen" und ebenso erscheint es heute den Familien.
Der Cache ist außerhalb der Klamm und kann von oben her gefunden werden, allerdings entgeht Euch dann das Erlebnis der Klamm!

Wer den Cache loggen möchte, muss folgende Fragen beantworten und mir die Antworten an mein GC Mail schicken. Danach könnt Ihr auch gleich online loggen, ich melde mich, falls etwas nicht stimmen sollte.
- auf welcher Höhe lag die Talsohle vor der letzten Eiszeit?
- Wie wird der Vorgang des gegenseitigen Abschleifens des Gerölls und des Untergrundes genannt (Erosion ist nicht gesucht)?
- (optional): Macht ein Foto von Euch, die Jungs bei dem Klammgeist, die Mädels bei der Klammhexe.

In the late Ice Age, about 14.000 years ago, the Kaprun Valley was covered by a powerful glacier. As it flowed slowly down the valley, the glacier carved away the hard limestone, slate and mica cliffs of the Maiskogel and Bürgkogel.
As the glacier melted, it left behind the deep notch, trough which the Kaprun Stream flowed into the valley.
As much as 32 meters deep and running 320 meters long through the Sigmund-Thun Gorge, the Kaprun Stream has left its mark on the rocky riverbanks, smoothing some rock surfaces and etching whirlpools and deep holes into others.
If children and parents explore the Sigmund Thun gorge in Kaprun, they understand the words of count Sigmund von Thun, the historical town holder of Salzburg: "Blustering and incredibly the Fluthen rush towards us" and today also it appears to the families.

The Earthcache is located outside the gorge at the top end. Access is also possible from the Klamm lake. If you do so, you'll miss the adventurous gorge!

To log the cache, please answer the following questions and send me the answers to my GC mail account. Once you have sent the mail, you may log the cache. I will contact you in case the answers are not correct.
- How many metres above sea level was the bottom of the valley before the last ice-age?
- What is the term for the abrasion of the boulders and bedrocks (erosion ist not the right expression)?
- (optional) Boys take a photo at the "Klammgeist" (gorge ghost), girls take a photo at the "Klammhexe" (gorge witch).
