Regular size cache situated along the Vlakkenberg Trail in the Hout Bay area. Items for trade welcome.
The Outdoor Education club of a school in Hout Bay went up the mountain to place a cache. We had to turn back due to one child having an asthma attack, but carried on with our voyage after she was collected.
Unfortunately the cache could not be placed where we wanted to place it as we ran out of time.
There is more than one way to get to the cache. We took the shortest/straightest route, up Bokkemanskloof. The trail is very overgrown and rather steep, but it took us about 2&1/4 hours up and down from the start in Blue Valley Road in Hout Bay. The actual paved road, Blue Valley road is steeper than the trail, so don't give up before you reach the mountain! Follow the fire break into the kloof and you'll meet up with the trail. Follow the trail up the kloof until you meet up with the Vlakkenberg trail and follow that path to the cache.
Another way to get onto the trail would be starting the Vlakkenberg Trail close to Constantia Nek and following the path towards Constantia Berg.
At the moment we placed the cache my GPS only had 10m accuracy, so if anyone want to ammend the coordinates, please do so in the comments.
We placed it just a couple of meters off the trail.
It is really beautiful on top of these mountains and the birdlife is incredible. Beware of scorpions when scratching for the cache - we found one!

The children filled the cache with all sorts of things. It contains a stash note, pencil, sharpener and a log book.
