Geocache Description:

You will need to bring your own pen. From the cache you have a good view of the nicotine fields.
This cache is set with permission of the National Trust.Parking for the National Trust is at The National Trust Reserve, Victoria Road, Freshfield. There is a parking charge . It is also possible to park outside St Lukes Church Formby or considerately on roads approaching the Reserve in Freshfield. If you are local and able to walk to the caches all the better!

Nicotine waste was dumped in the asparagus fileds without planning permission from 1956 to 1960 whne permission was granted for a further 14 years. The British Nicotine Company in Bootle tipped the waste onto the fields which are now the property of the National Trust. The main deposits can be seen in the areas of erosion on the frontal dunes.
The area now supports an alien flora as the soil is relatively rich in organic matter compared with normal sand dune communities- and is mainly colonised by a lush growth of nettles.
Please rehide carefully.
