Geocache Description:

This cache is hidden adjacent to arguably the most intriguing building in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta.

Famed early Chicago Architect Louis Sullivan lamented that the throw-back neo-classical designs of the Columbian Exposition of 1893 were responsible for setting back American Architecture 50 years or more (visit link) . Who knew that this prediction would extend all the way to this lazy California Delta town.

The first time I saw it I thought it may be a Carnegie Library it is so monumental and out of place for such a small town. But it turns out to be the former Bank of Courtland which suggests a bygone era of economic prosperity. We are not sure exactly how old it is but there is a 1926 photo of it in the California State Library.

We are placing this cache to encourage fellow cachers another reason to visit one of our favorite areas, stop, and hunt for our caches in the vicinity including Pear Fair, Steamboat Willy and our favorite Hula Girl.

The cache is low, and should be accessible from a wheelchair.

Bring a pen/cil to sign the log.
