Geocache Description:

This cache is my first hide. I hope you enjoy.

Park at N 48 07.394 W 122 45.797 This should put you across the street from the park sign. After you park you will see an entrance approximately 50 feet to the right of the sign. This park is mostly over grown brush and trees and is a neighborhood greenbelt area with lots of trails. You may have difficulty with your GPS due to the trees. Go slow and let it settle down. Sather Park – is a 4.9-acre park located on Morgan Hill. The main trail into the park is located on Adams Street between Cosgrove Street and Foster Street. Other than a series of un-maintained trails the park remains undeveloped. It serves as a green space buffer in a densely populated neighborhood. Port Townsend pioneer Henry E. Morgan was born in Connecticut in 1825. In 1848 he married Kate Burton and the couple later adopted a daughter, also named Kate. The daughter eventually taught school in Port Townsend and married D.H. Hill, member of another Port Townsend pioneer family. Morgan originally left Connecticut and sailed to San Francisco via Cape Horn. He had signed onto a sailing vessel as a partner in a mining venture during the 1849 gold rush. He continued to work on ships in San Francisco Bay and the Sacramento River, rather than seek his fortune in the gold fields. He eventually went to sea and worked his way from common seaman to ship's captain. He settled in Washington in 1858, first farming and trading on Whidbey Island. Then in 1864 the family moved to Port Townsend, and in 1866 he bought the tract now known as Morgan Hill. He developed the property and began selling lots in 1885. Morgan was also a partner in Union Wharf and bought and sold Protection Island twice. He drilled for coal on Marrowstone Island and established a short-lived teachers' college, as well as attempting to build a hotel in the early 1900’s in what is now Sather Park. The hotel was never completed and blew down in a wind storm. The rectangular depression that you see after you enter the park is the remnants of where the foundation was. CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CLASSIC COWBOY FOR A FTF!
