Town Name: Angling
Population: Unknown- still
looking
Reason For Becoming a Lost Town: Once the lumber
ran out and the rails removed the camps and town were moved too
Town History: Angling was a small log camp
community on the M. & N. E. Railroad in Kalkaska County near he
North Branch of the Manistee River.. The railroad was built in 1897
and first operated in 1898, this meant an influx of people into the
area and a outflow of logs to the lumber mills. While smaller creek
and stream did feed into larger rivers, the Railroad was the best
way to transport the cut logs.
Notes of Interest: Single lane bridge over the
upper reaches of the North Branch of the Manistee River
