Having "littered" Churchdown Hill with numerous caches over the
last year or so; we thought that it would be a good idea to help
keep this lovely place looking its best. Like us, many people have
come to enjoy this beautiful setting, so why not give something
back?
From 10 am to 2pm on Saturday 10th July 2010, we will be
in the car park on the top of the hill dispensing rubbish bags,
exchanging Trackables and generally saying hello. We hope that you
will join us, otherwise it could get very lonely.
As an inducement we aim to plant some new caches on and
around the hill which should coincide with this event.
St Bartholomew's Church will be open and friends of the church
present to explain the history of this ancient building. We are
grateful to the "Friends of St Bartholomew's Church" and the Church
Office for their support and assistance.
Those who have visited the hill before will know that there are
no amenities (toilets) on the hill but lots of dense
shubberies!!
There are several hostelries and a PYO farm around the base of
the hill, in Churchdown Village and the Barnwood/Hucclecote area
with refreshments of varying types.
The hill is also a great place to bring a picnic - but remember
to take away anything you bring!
Please bring gloves or a grabber device as we're unable to
provide these for you!
If anyone would like to start collecting from the bottom and
work up there will be a few bags in
Old Lags 10th Endeavour. This "avenue" gets badly affected by
rubbish as bits blow onto it from the road.
Please note: There is limited parking at the top of the hill
(found at the cache coordinates). An alternative parking waypoint
is provided for the more adventurous!
06/07/10 - Having walked over the hill on a 'recce'
yesterday; there was very little litter around - perhaps the
Chombles (Chosen Hill Wombles), have been busy. Please do not let
this put you off - come and enjoy the caches old AND new.
It looks as if the weather will be kind and sunny, so hats,
sun-screen, something to drink etc. might be wise.
Arrive anytime after 10am and stay for as long as you want; it will
just be nice to meet you. Do remember to "check in".
