It's about time...
I have been geocaching for over a year now, and I'm getting
close to 500 finds, but I still haven't placed any hides of my own.
I decided it was high time I corrected that situation, so I am
putting out a trio of caches along the multi-use paved trail that
goes from Fairview Park to Rock Springs Center. This part of the
trail goes through some bottomland/wetland near Stevens Creek.
One, Two, Three
I know some people don't like to hike very far for their caches,
so I thought three at once might be a little more enticing. But
don't worry, you won't need to go beyond the 0.5 mile marker for
any of these three caches. There are also at least three other
caches nearby, so if you haven't found them already, you should
check them out while you are here, and really make it worth the
walk: GC16HXC The german cache, GCJEVC Hole In One, and GC8ED3
Fishbeards.
It should be an easy walk along the paved trail, with a little
bushwhacking near each cache, to keep it out of sight from muggles.
There is even a bench in the area in case you wear yourself out on
the way. This is a well-used trail, so you will need to keep an eye
out for muggles. They are generally far enough apart to give you
plenty of time in between - just keep your eyes open. Also keep
your eyes open for wildlife. At various times along this path I
have seen deer, including a small Bambi, assorted squirrels and
bunnies, and a white egret.
Two
This is probably the easiest of the three to find. When you get
to the bench, take the path to the east. This part of the trail
goes toward Kiwanis Park, but of course you won't go that far. It
also seems to be on slightly higher ground, so may still be
accessible when the other two are too soggy. As always, watch for
muggles, and be sure to replace it as you found it.
Caution
One word of warning - this is bottomland/wetland. When it rains,
it gets soggy, and when it rains a lot, like in the springtime, it
will be underwater. And even when the area is mostly dry, there
will be soggy and muddy patches, so be careful. Mosquitoes are also
a fact of life in wetland areas, so use your repellant. DEET works.
I have not encountered ticks in the area, but I won't swear there
aren't any.
