Geocache Description:

This is a green plastic airtight cellphone container in a cemetery near Broken Bow, OK. Please show respect and rehide to the best of your ability because this one has walked before.

We just knew that we could find the meaning of the word, yashau, and we think we finally found out today from the Broken Bow Chamber of Commerce. When we called them after asking many people during the past week a lady there said that it is in the book "Native American Place Names of the United States." The meaning is "a large kettle for cooking hominy with pork" and the correct name is iyaasha. If you can share any light on the meaning, please let us know. We did not meet any snakes, ticks, or poison ivy but this is southeast Oklahoma so always be on the lookout. There are fire ants approaching ground zero.

Fruitcakes 73439 said that her mom and some other old Indians say that yashau in Chickasaw means black kettle. It is used to cook pashota, which is corn, hominy and fat back. Yum, not. The Chickasaw spell it iyasha and pronounce it ee-yah-shah. Thank you for the information.
