Stagecoach Station Stash Traditional Cache

Located in Vogel Canyon it is a great hike around the loop. You can take the Canyon Trail and link up with the Mesa Trail or Prairie Trail, or just start with the Mesa Trail and that trail will take you right to the Stagecoach Station ruins located at the far west end of the canyon itself.
It is a very pretty walk, all trails are well marked with piles of stones to follow so you shouldn't get lost, but I may warn you that the Mesa Trail itself is a little overgrown since it isn't used as often as the Canyon Trail is. But still easy enough to navigate. Along with the trail markers, (piles of stones) there are also signs that point the way.
In the spring many flowers are in bloom, as are the yucca. There is a lot of wildlife to see if you visit the canyon during the dawn or dusk hours. Of course lizard, ravens, hawks and whip snakes, rattlers, and red and brown racers along with garden snakes are visible throughout the day if you know where to look. If you even want to look!
There are actually 4 different ruins that are found within the canyon itself and the Stagecoach Station is one of them.
There is said to be a stash of Spanish Gold somewhere around that area, but there are many variations of the story. If you can find the rock formation that stands 30 feet tall and looks like a doll, there is said to be gold buried 200 feet from it. Buried before Indians came and slayed the entire convoy of Spaniards that were making their way along the Purgator River. Some confirmation of this story can be held in the fact that some old Spanish Armor and a Gun of the period was found in a cave somewhere in Vogel Canyon itself, but its location is not disclosed. I am sure because gold fever could be catchy if people only knew where to start looking!
