Geocache Description:

I am placing this series to help you identify the different tree varieties. The cache is hidden at the base of the tree being identified.

Red pine (Pinus resinosa), also called Norway pine, is one of the most extensively planted species in the northern United States and Canada. It is a medium-size tree with lightweight, close-grained, pale reddish wood used primarily for timber and pulpwood. Trees 97 cm (38 in) in d.b.h. and 43 m (141 ft) tall in Michigan are among the largest living specimens.

Red pine is confined to the Northern Forest region and the southern fringe of the Boreal Forest region. It grows in a narrow zone around the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence River. Its range extends from Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, southern Quebec, and Maine, westward to central Ontario and southeastern Manitoba, southward to southeastern Minnesota and eastward to Wisconsin, Michigan, southern Ontario, northern Pennsylvania, northern New Jersey, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. It also grows locally in northern Illinois, eastern West Virginia, and Newfoundland.

The cache is loacated on the trails at Blue Job. Parking is available at N 43 19.678 W 071 07.333

You may want to bring a picnic lunch and make sure you bring plenty of water if you plan on spending the day. The container is a small lock-n-lock and has a couple of small trade items. Make sure you close the container tightly to keep moisture out. There is a set of earphones for the FTF.

Be sure to re-hide the container exactly as found so that it can not be seen from the trail.

Congrats to granithead for the FTF.
