Geocache Description:

LAUREL PARK, ST. PETERS, MO
SUNDAY JULY 25, 2010, NOON TO ????

It’s time for the laid back picnic that even a slacker can host! No frills, no extra activities, just show up and chill out in July’s lovely weather. Good thing there’s a pool nearby!

Be sure to read the note at the end about the tricky entrances to the park.

IMPORTANT: NO GLASS CONTAINERS OF ANY KIND IN THE PARK! ALSO NO ALCOHOL.

SLAGA will provide charcoal, plates, utensils, cups and condiments. There is no charge for this picnic. You just bring whatever you and your family/friends want to eat and drink.

As long as everyone cleans up after themselves, no formal volunteers are needed, except maybe someone to help start the charcoal. I’m not so hot at this!

We have a large pavilion (200 people) reserved in beautiful Laurel Park. The pavilion has 2 medium-sized grills. Portable grills are prohibited without prior approval from the Parks Department.

Near the pavilion:
4 horseshoe pits (I have one set of shoes)
a playground with “water features” for the little ones
a port-a-potty (there is a regular bathroom a short walk away)
a small pond
paved hiking trails
a sand volleyball court
and.....a pool

POOL INFO: It’s a short walk from the pavilion, open from noon to 8:30PM.
You probably will NOT be able to come and go from the pool: in other words, no re-entry once you have left the pool. (I am supposed to check with the head lifeguard on the day of the picnic)

POOL PRICES for everyone who is not a resident of St Peters or St. Charles:
Under 18.............3.25
Adult...................4.50
55 and up...........3.25
(Residents must have a St. Peters Resident Privilege Card or St. Charles Parks Passport card to receive discounted entry fee)

FINDING LAUREL PARK AND WHERE TO PARK ONCE YOU GET THERE

I’ve been told that some folks find this park a challenge to navigate. It is tucked away in the midst of many subdivisions and it has an unusual configuration: There are 2 entrances, but the streets from each entrance do not connect in the middle. In other words, you can’t get there from here, even with a GPS.

The additional WP’s provided should help you out. The entrance from McCLAY/ McCLAY VALLEY BLVD leads to the LARGER parking lot CLOSEST to the PAVILION. This is the one you want if you need disabled parking or a short walk. The entrance from JUNGERMAN/BARKWOOD TRAILS/DRIFTWOOOD LANE leads to a smaller parking lot, which is closer to the POOL and POND. You CAN easily walk to the pavilion from either parking lot. However, the two parking lots are NOT CONNECTED, so if one is full or if it’s not the place you want to park, you will have to drive a long way around to get to the other lot. Hope this helps. Check your maps carefully and contact me if it still seems confusing.

Please post a “will attend” if you’re coming and watch this page for any updates. Now let’s all get ready to kick back and have a slack-tacular good time!
