My Favorite Golf Courses- Hole #4 Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Long Drive Daddy: I loved this spot and cache but over time things in the area have changed. Namely people living in the woods nearby, the apartments have started to deteriorate a bit and don"t want any cacher to feel uncomfortable searching.. Thanks for all that came out to attempt this difficult cache.

Geocache Description:

This is the next cache commemorating my favorite golf courses I have played and this course is called Colonial Country Club.

Colonial Country Club is located in Fort Myers, FL. It is a semi-private course, located in a gated community in which my in-laws have a place. This course is one of the top 5 toughest courses I have played. It has a slope rating (difficulty) of 148 from the Championship Tees. There are only a handful of courses played on the PGA Tour with higher difficulty ratings by the way...

I liked this course because it was challenging, long, but playable, only if you were strategic. It very rarely had a hole that had "Go For It" written all over it. After each round I played, I remember being more mentally drained than physically. Every fairway is slightly crowned, which simply means sloped from the middle down to the sides, imagine an upside-down bowl. Next to the fairway is about 4 feet of rough then next is a 4-10 feet drop into thick pine straw or sand. Needless to say, it was extremely hard, but some of the best manicured greens ever. My best round in four tries was an 83, and this was a tee closer than the Championship tees.

The head pro told me about 4 touring PGA pros who were in town for a charity outing and wanted to play a round. He said sure, and told them to go ahead and play and that the white tees (the ones played by most) were "all the course they needed". The players of course, said "Do you know who we are?" The pro said yes, and said go ahead and play the back tees, but he wanted to see their card after the round. Away they went, and he said they looked like they were hit by a truck when they came in and wouldn't you know it, not one of these "PGA Tour pros" managed a score under 80. Tough track....

Now on to this cache. I followed this trail the other day, looking for a good spot to hide and I eventually got to it. The way I took is the reason for the high difficulty and the high terrain. There may be an "easier" way, you may have to find it on your own...From trailhead to cache and back was about 15-20 minutes. This is a nice walk along a well travelled trail BUT.......

the trail is very steep at times, probably extremely slick in spots after it rains and your best balancing skills are required for about 15-20 feet of the hike. There is also some light bushwacking involved once off the main trail(s).

The cache itself is a very well hidden micro (an Airborne tube). I had these coords with a 15 ft accuracy reading, and approached it from several diff. directions. You will probably "realize" what ground zero is, as you get nearer.

Be very careful on this one...please place the cache back as you found it, so that others can have fun as well. Did I mention it was VERY well hidden?

Parking available just North of the trailhead...and suggested to experience the "TRUE CACHE HUNT" as this listing was intended.

By The Way---I left a FTF prize of a Rip Roaring $1.

CONGRATS TO LINCOLNSAUNT FOR BEING FTF.
