This 3-stager is located long the lightly used Rum Creek Nature Trail behind the Rockford Community Cabin and Memorial Park. Parking is usually available at the Cabin on Monroe Street (N 43 07.468, W 085 33.456), but also ample parking can be found at the adjacent ballfield accessible from Lewis Street (N 43 07.481, W 085 33.292). Avoid the school playground areas north of the paved trail on school days, or my wife the playground monitor will chase you away!
A pleasant stroll on a paved path which skirts a once active mill pond where ice skaters once gathered in winter, and a creek that was used a century ago to float logs from higher ground to a mill downstream. Cache name is derived from the red-winged residents who live near the cache. See if they greet you with the same sense of alarm is they did for me when I placed the cache. Bring bug spray in summer. Final is a medium sized container with room for small tradeables only. All 3 stages are just a few steps from the paved trail and boardwalk. Enjoy this best kept secret in Rockford, and also my first ever hide. Note: The final had to be moved due to the tree splitting in half. It is now located on the ground 5 feet southeast of the split tree.
