Just off the A684
High Whitbeck disappeared long ago as part of a road-widening scheme on the A684, but Samuel Lund lived here in 1751. In 1861 Thomas Wearing, who was one of the original trustees of Garsdale Foot Chapel, farmed here (though he is recorded as “badger” in 1863) here with his mother Betty as housekeeper, and his brother George who was a shoemaker, but in 1871 there was no-one living here, and it was recorded as uninhabited in the 1901 census. The house gradually fell down and stone was taken, with just traces left in the 1950s. The cache is just off the road on a fairly steep slope. Parking is possible on the grass verge opposite if your vehicle has reasonable clearance, but take care because bikers pass here at up to 80 mph.
