For those who are familiar and were a little daunted with a couple of my caches, 'Alf's Esker' and 'Monkey's Challenge', you'll be relieved to find this one is true to it's name!
This is also one of 2 caches (the other is GC29QMR) you'll need to view if you're interested in finding the 'Limerick Bonus' cache.
Located in Limerick Forest South, west off 416 south of Kemptville. The cache has been placed along the 'Alf Campbell Trail'. The trail head and parking are both found at the new log chalet off Limerick Rd.
Limerick once was an area of over worked abandoned farm land comprising of mostly sand and wetlands. The exposed sand that formed roving dunes was eventually stabilized by the government through a reforestation program. The old foundation stones located near the cache are likely all that's left of an Irish homestead.
While Dad ('Alf') worked as a forester at Limerick my family spent many a weekend wandering through the forest climbing the dunes, picking apples and finding old bottles. There is now a network of visitor trails to use for both hiking and dirt biking. Click on the following link to find maps (Limerick - South, area 3 maps) and further information. (visit link)
Portera (FTF) is quite the poet and should not be missed so here is his 'limerick' for all to enjoy.
There once was a cacher named Ron
Who woke up just shortly past dawn
He was hoping to find
not a sign left behind
of the Penguins from Kars or beyond
Happy Caching!
