Geocache Description:

A quick cache and dash along a bustling high street. Situated partway up a paved hill, but is wheelchair accessible and available 24/7, year round.

This is the first in a series of caches celebrating the town of Buckhurst Hill.

This is an area steeped in history. For many years it was known as the royal hunting ground on the edge of the forests owned by the monks of Waltham Abbey. Nearby King’s Avenue is so-called because it was originally the tree-lined entrance to King Henry VIII’s hunting lodge. The town was transformed in 1856 when the railway arrived. The legacy of that time is the beautiful Victorian architecture, including the original station building, which now whisks commuters into the heart of London in under half an hour. Nowadays it is a vibrant community known for its friendly locals, one-off boutique shops and quality restaurants.

This cache is placed on a busy junction in the centre of town, so beware of muggles, night and day! From here you'll find a lovely view of the hills and Roding Valley. Street parking is available on Queen’s Road (pay and display Mon-Sat 10:00-17:30), or take the bus or tube to Buckhurst Hill Tube Station and walk about 5 minutes.
