Geocache Description:

The road to this cache is a little rough dirt/rock road and I don't recommend you take a low ground clearance car.

Turn onto the dirt road at N37* 21.603' W81* 22.066

Parking at N37* 21.09' W81* 22.298'

Take a flash light and maybe a extra flash light!

The Rock Heading Tunnel and Elkhorn Substation was built around 1935.

They are abandoned now and this cache is like the Extreme Way to 52
and Low Water Trail
but this cache requires that you travel into the tunnel.

The water is deep at the entrance and but the caches are large, so I hope it is worth your time.

Some additional history; the tunnel was cut through from one side of Peel Chestnut Mountain to the other side and a small steam engine train would pull coal from the coal mines on one side to the coal load-out on the other side. I'm not sure how many years it was in service, so if you know more history, then please post or let me know!

By Little64 - I'm going to try and get a picture up soon of the little steam trains that use to pull coal from the other side of the mountain to the prep plant on the Maybeury side.My Grandfather use to run one of the trains the company was the old Mill Creek Coal and Coke company.

Take a flash light and maybe a extra flash light!
