Geocache Description:


The KVR is a poignant reminder to our past; only 100 years ago it was the primary mode of transportation. It would leave Princeton and headed up the valley, following the Tulameen River up to Tulameen.

Next stop – Coalmont, the fireman preferred Blakeburn Coal. After the rising of prices by the Coalmont Colliers the K.V.R. fireman truly missed Blakeburn’s coal, before the boycott its superior firing ability had meant that they had to shovel less during a regular twelve hour shift getting their locomotives up the Coquihalla. As a further example, take the following lyrics from a song in 1930.

“The West Coast Special”
Out west on the K.V. Line, those gondolas roll
Haulin’ out from Coalmont, a higher grade of coal.
I’ll ride this train to better days, it’s a trip I won’t forget
